She's sharing ideas with us about how to create the perfect powder room.

Take it away, Amber.

How to Create the Perfect Powder Room: Practical and Stylish

If you entertain a lot having a pretty powder room is a necessity. No guest will feel truly comfortable in your home if the facilities are in poor condition. You do not need to completely gut your bathroom to create a pleasant space, nor do you need to spend a fortune to create the powder room of your dreams.

Be Ostentatious!

Bathrooms are generally small, and therefore it is quite hard to make a bathroom look overdone or too flamboyant. Allow yourself free rein in the décor, splurging on exuberant, waterproof wallpaper (it may be expensive but you will only need one or two rolls) and investing in extravagant and luxurious looking fittings. The effect will be that of a rich and pampering environment, sure to appeal to all of your guests.

Light It Up!

Invest in attractive light fittings. Small rooms do not need very bright lights and therefore, as long as your guests can see well enough to check and repair their make-up, you will be able to choose lights and fittings for their appeal rather than their practicality.

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall…

Make the most of your powder room by installing a large and unusual mirror. There is nothing worse than a bathroom with too small a mirror as not only is it hard to check your reflection, the lack of openness in the room can cause mild claustrophobia. Mirrors open out rooms, effectively doubling the space with their reflections, and create an automatic focal point in the room. Having an unusually shaped mirror or one in a distinctive frame is an excellent way to highlight and emphasise the beauty of your bathroom.

Add A Touch Of Luxury

Do not allow any clutter to build up in the powder room, but this does not mean that the surfaces should be completely bare. Have a small tray on the side containing an expensive and luxurious hand-cream and some fancy soaps or hand-wash for your guests to use. Air fresheners should be discreet, effective and lightly perfumed to eradicate every trace of those unpleasant lavatory odours. A bowl of delicately scented potpourri or a vase filled with seasonal flowers is also an excellent touch. Hand towels should be the best that you can afford, so as to make the entire bathroom experience a pleasant and rewarding one for your guests.

Out Of The Box

Install unique and unusual storage ideas, such as mirrored cabinets that will expand the room, and rotating storage cupboards. The latter can be installed into any small space and be completely filled with supplies, all of which can be easily reached thanks to the rotating shelves inside. You can also inserts drawers under the sink for extra storage.

Study your bathroom, looking for unique features to enhance and finding the aspects that are best disguised or covered up. Then plan out your perfect powder room, overlaying your ideas on to the available space and surfaces in your bathroom.

Thank you, Amber!

Happy Friday!
