It's a Party! #156

Thank you for coming to the party!

Are you enjoying the Spring as much as I am? It seems like it took forever to finally get here.

I haven't been able to get much done this week. Greg has been off and when he's home it seems like we're always off to somewhere or doing something. The last few days we've been shopping for a new front door and storm door. We bought the front door yesterday and hope to get the storm door this weekend so he and Brandon can get them both installed. Funny how something silly like new doors can get me all excited. I've been thinking about decorating the front porch now in honor of the new doors. I think I'll wait until the new railing is in though, that's the next project on the list. It never ends!

So let's see what you all have been up to this last week. I can't wait to see!

Link up anything you want to share with us this week. It can be your fabulous craft, yummy recipe, giveaway, shop, etc.

I'll feature the Top 5 most viewed links next Wednesday. I started a board on Pinterest where I pin all of the fabulous features. You can follow along Here.

I would love for you to follow A Creative Princess while you're here!

If you would like to grab an It's a Party button (on the sidebar) and post it on your blog somewhere, that would be great! Let's get the word out and grow this party.
The more the merrier!

Canister Labels

As many of you know, I've been doing a lot of cleaning and organizing around here.

When I found these labels on Pinterest the other day, I knew they were too good not to share.

Wait 'til you see these!

Aren't they fabulous? She shares a lot more of them, be sure to go to her blog and check them out.

I use K-cups now, but I have a pile of these canisters stashed away.
(Greg, this is exactly why your wife is a "hoarder"!)

If you don't have the canisters, you could use jars, boxes, the front of baskets...the possibilities are endless!

Now we have no excuse, let's get organized!
Yes, I need to practice what I preach.

Have a marvelous Monday!

Bunting Window Valance

Our family room is dark and a curtain on the window always seems too heavy, but it needed something with the blinds.

How about a bunting?

The great thing about this is that I made it so it's reversible for the fall and winter.

I used canvas fabric and sewed them together in a triangle. Then cut around the stitching with pinking shears. I should say that I started with 2 rectangles and drew on and stitched the triangle. It seemed to work easier that way.

I went back and forth on how to hang it, but went with grommets.

Then strung the 5 pieces onto jute.

Happy chevron for the spring and summer, dark colors for fall and winter.

I put a little nail in the wall and tied the jute to it and wired on a sunflower to cover it.

It's funny how you live with something and never even notice how bad it is until you see it right in front of you on the computer. That heat register needs to go! I'll be making a little trip to Home Depot this weekend!!

I recently recovered the chair with the save chevron canvas. You can see it Here.

Have a fabulous weekend!

It's a Party! #155

Welcome to the party!

If you saw my post on Monday, you know that I've been on a little break this week. Cleaning. I wish I could say I was in Hawaii, but no, cleaning.

Right now, as of this very minute, I'm proud to announce...wait for it...

MY CLOSET IS NOW CLEAN AND ORGANIZED!!!

I haven't made it to the craft room, yet, but my closet is spotless! Greg even made a shelf that goes across the top and above the shelf that was there for his shoes. That man is a genius! The only thing I regret is that while it was all emptied, I wish I had painted the walls. Oh well, maybe I'll do that in another 10 years!

So... in celebration of my clean closet, let's party!

(I'll be back in full force this Friday.)

Link up anything you want to share with us this week. It can be your fabulous craft, yummy recipe, giveaway, shop, etc.

This ain't gonna be pretty!

I'm going to take a couple of days off from blogging this week.

I'll be back on Wednesday afternoon to start this week's It's a Party.

I'm going to show you what I'll be doing, but I don't want the first photo you see to be what I'm about to show you, so let's look at this first.

Easter 2014

Okay, are you ready? Here comes the ugliness!

Yes, that my friends, I'm ashamed to say, is our closet that we use everyday.
Pretty, huh? UGH!!!

My friend, Mindie, from Bacon Time with the Hungry Hypo was brave enough to post about her closet last week, so I thought I should "man up" and do the same. You can see how great hers turned out Here.

I've started working on it a tiny bit, but I need a full day (if not more!) to get it back to some kind of organized chaos.

When I finish it and if I'm still alive, I'm moving upstairs to the craft room.

(Brace yourself)

I don't know how it happened or even when it happened, but that's what my craft room looks like right now as we speak. Wow!

I know that's going to take a lot more than one day, but I hope to have a dent in it by Friday. Our beautiful and talented (buttering up) granddaughter, Jalynn, is going to be here with us and I'm hoping to bribe her into helping me. Wish me luck! Now that I think about it, that's really a mean thing for a grandma to do, isn't it?

So that's what I'll be up to and I hope you understand my absence for a few days. Believe me, I would much rather be right here on this computer with all of you.

Have a great week and I'll see you back here Wednesday!

Welcome to the party and thank you so much for joining us!

Is everyone ready for Easter? I can't believe it's here already. I hope this means that Spring is actually here, too! I (kind of) started packing winter clothes away and cleaning out our closets. What a job!!

I can't wait to see what you all have been working on this past week, so let's get started!

Adding a Pop of Color to an Old Chair

I've never reupholstered anything before, so I started with something simple.

A lone, old chair that I thought could use a little face-lift.

This was a chair that was always pulled out when we needed another seat at the table or more places to sit when a lot of people were here. It was always in the basement, but seemed to be coming upstairs more than usual lately and I finally got tired of looking at the poor, ugly thing.

The seat was held on by 4 screws underneath, so I removed those.

I used canvas fabric and cut it about 2" larger all around.

If your fabric has a pattern, make sure it's straight and add one staple to all 4 sides.
This is holding it in place while you do the corners.

For the corner, start by stapling the point in first.

Then you'll take each side and fold it in and staple.

You may notice that is a different corner than the first picture, but you get the idea.

After your corners are all nice and pretty, start stapling away along all 4 sides, pulling the fabric taut as you go.

Screw the seat back on and you've changed the whole look!

Hello, Gage, and yes, I'm actually walking around the house taking pictures of a chair!

Perfect for Spring!

Crochet Dishcloth

My daughter-in-law has been raving about these type of dishcloths for years. In fact, every year during Fall Fun Fest we make a trip up there just for the booth that sells these to restock up.

I've got to tell you, she has me sold on cotton dishcloths now. I'll never go back to a nasty ol' sponge or flimsy dishcloth again.

There are a lot of tutorials for different variations on Pinterest, but I sat down one day and just winged it.

Make sure you use cotton yarn and I started with a chain of 27.
Then half double crochet for 21 rows.

I ended up with approximately an 8" square and I like that size when using it.

They're fast and easy and my type of crocheting!

I've added these and other colors to my Etsy shop and if you want to try using these and don't want to make your own, you can find there Here.

Have a marvelous Monday!

Cute as a Bunny's Butt

Who doesn't love a cute little bunny butt?!

I need to thank Linda from Stamping with Linda for the inspiration for this when she made this card.

I loved her card and immediately saw a wooden hoop and fleece.

So that's how I started. I painted a wooden hoop white and then put fleece in it.

For the feet and tail, I cut the shapes out of cardboard.

I cut 4 pieces of white fleece larger than the feet and appliqued the pads of the feet on two of them.

Then I sandwiched the cardboard between the appliqued and the plain fleece.

Using a zipper foot, sew the around the cardboard.

After it's sewn all the way around, trim the excess away close to the stitching.

I did the tail the same way, but added a couple of layers of quilt batting in between the layers of fleece and cardboard to make it puffy.

All that's left to do is hot glue the pieces onto the hoop.

Aww...bunny butt!

Have a fabulous Friday!
