Faux Patina Monogram with Bowdabra Bow

Remember last week when I told you about Bowdabra and showed the bows I made for the old farm doors in our entryway?
It's Here if you missed it and the Barn Tin Walls post is Here.

Well, I love this thing so much that now I can't stop making bows!

When we decided to put barn tin on our entryway and dining room walls, I never thought about how hard it would be to find something to hang on those walls. It's not your average plain white wall.

I think I solved one little spot on those walls with this faux patina monogram. I'd been working on it and then received the Bowdabra and the bow was the extra "pop" that I needed for it to stand out.

This is what I used for the W.
Regular acrylic paint in slate grey, metallic paint, and distress ink.

Our natural patina walls are more rust than grey, so I wanted this to be more grey to stand out. I painted the W in the regular grey paint first and then rubbed on the distress ink. It still needed the lighter shine, so I dry brushed on the grey metallic paint.

This W sat in my craft room for about a month, then I received the Bowdabra and that light bulb in my head went off.

I took the ribbon they sent me and cut a couple of 6" pieces from each kind and cut a dove tail in all of them and then made a package bow.
(The Bowdabra comes with the instructions for the bows.)

This bow would, also, make a cute hairbow and it's perfect for using up all the little pieces of ribbon you have leftover.

The bow was just the right extra touch that I needed!

Thank you Bowdabra and Totally Tutorials!
Without this opportunity, that W would still be sitting in my craft room!

Bowdabra

I recently was chosen to do a tutorial exchange by Totally Tutorials with Bowdabra.

I'm pretty sure it's a well known fact that I can not tie bows. No matter how hard I try, I just can't.
Until now.

Bowdabra is an awesome bowmaker that makes any kind of bow you would want so simple to do.

I received that magic little thing along with a ton of ribbon last week and got right to work.

I've always wanted to hang ribbons from the old farm doors that we have in our entryway and was never able to get the bow just right. With the Bowdabra, I had 2 bows made in minutes.

I can't wait to change them out for all occasions.

Thank you so much Totally Tutorials and Bowdabra for choosing me to participate in this exchange!

I'm working on a faux patina monogram with a bow to hang. I'll share it soon.

It's a Party! #189

Welcome to the party!

Is everyone ready for Christmas? I finished up my shopping this week and actually went to the store today so I could start baking Christmas goodies this weekend. We're supposed to get our first big snow tonight, so I think Greg and I will have a wrapping party.
(He doesn't know that, yet, so let's just keep that little piece of information between us. Okay?)

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Charlie Brown Christmas Tree

I changed our main Christmas tree around this year and I'm loving it.

Instead of all our Hallmark and homemade ornaments, I used burlap ribbon with gold and silver balls.

I'll show you what I did with the other ornaments in a minute, but first let's take a closer look at this little beauty.

The tree skirt is from Hobby Lobby.

Okay, so this whole thing started one day when Greg and I were walking through Wal-Mart and everyone was gathered around one certain tree that they were selling and making fun of it.

That poor little pitiful tree was calling my name.

I brought it home and it now holds so many of our memories. I hung all our Hallmark ornaments and every single ornament that my kids or grandkids have made over all the years.

It's beautiful to me and I love it more than any other tree in the world!

Have a happy Tuesday!

Santa's Stache Frame

So, the other day I showed you Santa's Belly Hoop and today we have...

Santa's stache!

I wish I could say that I thought of this, but I didn't. It was inspired by this burlap gift bag.

It was in the dollar bin at Michaels. You know the bins, the ones they have by the check-out lanes so you have to pass by everything and of course, you always find something to pick up.

This really was cute and it came in a package of 2 and will fit a gift card perfect.

I loved the bag so much that I wanted to make something else using that phrase.

I found an old frame, put black chalkboard paper behind the glass, and then cut out the vinyl and put it on the front of the glass.

Happy Friday!

It's a Party! #188

Welcome to the party!

I don't know how it happened, but did you realize that Christmas is only 2 weeks away? Are you ready? I still have shopping to do and a few things to finish up that I'm making. Let's not even mention baking and all the wrapping.

Besides getting ready for Christmas, here's what else has been going on this past week.

Here are the fabulous features from this morning.

That's what I've been up to, now it's your turn.

Santa's Belly Hoop

This is such a simple idea, but I think it's becoming one of my favorite Christmas decorations.

All it takes is a little felt, pleather, a slide buckle and a wood embroidery hoop.
Oh, and if you like, a few jingle bells.

All I did was lay it out how I wanted it over the bottom of the hoop, put the top on and trimmed the back. That's it.

I tied a few jingle bells to the top for a finishing touch and to hide the screw part.

Have an awesome Tuesday!

Christmas Fireplace Mantel

How about some gorgeous Christmas eye candy on this gloomy, doomy Monday?

I wish I could say this beautiful fireplace was in my house, but it's not. Christina created that awesome fireplace. We went over there yesterday and she had sent me pictures of it, but they in no way did it justice. I'm so impressed and proud of her!

That package hanging on the top is actually a picture she had there that she wrapped to look like a Christmas present.

She covered plain wood letters with more wrapping paper.

The mesh ribbon is from Wal-Mart.

Absolutely beautiful!

Great job, sweetheart.
I love you two!
