Aloha Moolah Bank

We're planning a trip to Hawaii next year for our 40th wedding anniversary. I wanted a place where I could throw all my spare change and $5.00 and $1.00 bills from my purse each week for the trip.

I didn't want any plain ol' bank or even an empty box or coffee container. I wanted a special place to remind me of what I was saving for.
Hence, my Aloha Moolah Shadow Box Bank.

I bought the shadow box frame and had Greg drill me a slot in the top. I was so excited to do this, I kept forgetting to take pictures, which is why I don't have a photo of the finished slot.

He actually drilled the holes to make a line and then we sanded it all smooth.

While he was busy sanding, I took the back cover and mod podged scrapbook paper to the inside.

That's really all there was to it. I put the frame back together and used a funnel to add sand to the bottom.

Aloha!

Beer Candied Bacon

Have I got a special treat for you today.

That's right, Beer-Candied Bacon! Yum!!

I found the recipe for this at i Save A2Z and made it last week for Greg. As much as I love bacon, I hate cooking it, but this was so well worth it. When you want (or need) a delicious guilty pleasure, Beer-Candied Bacon is your answer.

I know it's a little ways off, but this would be so perfect in a simple Mason jar for Father's Day.

Bunny Tail Specimen Art

Remember the shadow box that I made out of a box of chocolates (Here)?
Well, I actually had 2 of those boxes that I saved.

I filled this one up with bunny tails!

It all sounded like a great idea, but first, I needed to come up with the tails.
I decided to use pom poms and didn't want to run to the craft store, so I made my own.

That purple thing is some sort of bow maker that I got at a garage sale one time. I have no idea how to use it, but it worked great for making little pom poms.

I wrapped the yarn around the two dowels about 40 times and then tied yarn pieces around it every inch.

Slide the whole piece off of the dowels and then cut between all the yarn pieces and the loop at the ends.

Start fluffing and trimming where needed and you have a bunch of pom poms all the same size. This went so much faster than if I had done each one individually.

Okay, tails are done, now they need a place to sit. I used the crate again, like the shadow box, but this time I kept the piece that held the chocolate.

I spray painted the plastic piece and painted the crate with chalk paint.

For the little signs, I used wood ovals (egg shaped) with card stock mod podged to one side with vinyl letters.

Then tied ribbon to hang it.

Have a great weekend!

It's a Party! #198

Welcome to the party! I'm so glad you're here!

We're going to get right to the party this week. I'm knee deep in making itty bitty pom-poms. This idea of a Bunny Tail Speciman Art popped into my head this morning and that's literally what I've been doing all day. Hopefully I'll get it finished and be able to show it to you on Friday. I'm sure most of you would understand, but I really don't know how Greg is going to take it when he gets home and there is yarn and bunny tails all over the kitchen.

Just in case you missed them, the features from last week's party are Here.

A Box of Chocolates to a Shadow Box

That title makes absolutely no sense, yet.
Just wait.

First, I have to explain a little. Greg has worked at Bayer for over 30 years and when a good friend of ours dad (who, also, worked at Bayer and was a friend of Greg's) died last year, Nick passed all of his Bayer memorabilia on to Greg.

They went through a lot of name changes before they finally acquired the Bayer name. Greg and Nick's dad had been there through all the changes.

This is just a few of the many items he had. It meant the world to Greg that Nick was giving him these things and he didn't want them stuck away in a drawer somewhere.

That's where I come in.

We received a box of chocolates for Christmas and they came in a little wooden crate. You all know me, I couldn't throw it out.

I took what would fit, and glued the back of the boxes into the crate. Because this was going in Greg's man cave, I left the rough wood look.

Now it's proudly displayed in the man cave, which, by the way, has terrible lighting!

Oh, and I received no compensation from Bayer for this post, although, I do sleep with one of their employees. ;)

Heart Marquee Light

I'm probably the last crafter in the world to jump on the marquee bandwagon, but I finally did it.

I completely copied got my inspiration from Poofy Cheeks when I saw hers on Pinterest.

I used gray and black paint and black glitter cardstock for the inside of the heart.

I found the marquee lights at Hobby Lobby, but I'm pretty sure most craft stores have them now.

The full tutorial is at Puffy Cheeks.

Have a great weekend and a Happy Valentine's Day!
