Crocheted Unicorn for Ryker

New little grandbaby, Ryker, will be here very soon. Christina has his room all ready and finished for him. To say the room is adorable is definitely an understatement! I had one more little thing for her to add.

A crocheted unicorn. He's so darn cute!

I found this free pattern on Pinterest and went to work on him. By the way, One Dog Woof has so many cute crochet patterns, you should really check out her blog.

I switched the colors out to match Ryker's room. I think I had the most fun with the curly cue tails. So fun and fast to do.

I hope you all have a magical unicorn Monday!

Mini Baseball Bat Flag

A friend of mine sent me a picture of a flag made out of baseball bats and I thought that was such a great idea.

I didn't want it quite so big, so I made mine out of mini baseball bats that I found at Hobby Lobby.

I bought 13 bats and spray painted them with chalk paint. Did you know that comes in spray paint now? I didn't, but when I found it, I wanted to see how it did. I love it!

I found the easiest way to keep the straight lines was to wrap painters tape around where the dividing line should be and then taped saran wrap with painters tape to keep any over spray from getting on the other section. It worked great.

I used wood shims for the back with wood glue to hold everything together.

I went the easy route and used stickers for the stars.

What a perfect pair for my fireplace mantel!
(You can check out the Shadow Box Flag here.)

Have a great weekend!

Shadow Box Flag

I actually wanted to make this using baseballs, but knew that it would be way too big for what I wanted.

So I used round dowel caps instead.

Yes, that's a little different than the finished version which proves that it's a really good idea to measure twice and hot glue once.

I painted all the caps red, white, and blue and then hot glued them to the back of the frame. I thought there was enough room around the edges so that it would just lay back down. Wrong. I pulled all the caps off, rearranged them, and glued them back down again.

It ended up with a different look, but I'm thinking I like it better.

I'm getting ready to start on another flag made out of mini baseball bats.
Wish me luck.

Embroidered Tote Bag

I told you the other day that I was taking classes for my new embroidery machine and also, the software. I had my first software class a couple of weeks ago.

With a lot of help from the teacher, we created that design! I was so excited about it that I came home and made a tote bag using the design. The tote bag is just what I needed to carry my laptop and all the rest of my stuff to software class.

I did the embroidery on the fabric and then cut out for the tote around it.
(I made it like I did this tote, but used all one piece of fabric instead of two for the outside.)

I did have one little glitch when I first started the embroidery with the first 2 pins (bottom left side). I somehow figured out how to correct it and the rest went perfectly smooth.

It's nice and roomy on the inside with a fabric covered cardboard bottom and 2 big pockets.

I made a separate bag for my laptop to go in with lots of padding and fits in the tote.

It, also, has a pocket on the inside.

The little bag really doesn't match, but it works for all my USB sticks. I found it at Joann's for only a dollar, so hey, why not?

Have an awesome Friday!

It's a Party! #215

Welcome to the party and thank you so much for stopping by!

I've been busy all day getting ready for the big craft night tomorrow. My 12 year old granddaughter, Jordyn, and her soccer team are all coming over to make signs to hang on their hotel room doors for when they travel to Minnesota for a tournament. I got all of their names and numbers cut out of vinyl today and Jennifer is bringing the plaques and then it's up to the girls to paint and bling them up as much as they want. With that ridiculous stash I have up in my craft room, the possibilities are endless! Hopefully, the rain stays away and they can go outside to the hot tub. I bought hot-dogs and stuff for s'mores that they can cook on the outdoor fireplace. That's the plan anyway. One thing is for sure. Rain or shine, we'll have fun!

Did you catch the features from last week's party this morning?
If you missed them, they're here.

Machine Embroidery: 4th of July Shirt

I know I've told almost everyone who would listen to me that Greg bought me the embroidery machine that I've dreamed about for years a few months ago. (Yeah, he's a pretty great guy!)

Well, I'm finally catching on how to use it.

This was actually the very first embroidery class that I took at Joann's. Our teacher in this class is awesome and oh so patient with all of us old dogs with a new toy learning a new trick. I ask her if she went home and drank heavily after one of our 3 hour long classes.

She actually designed this herself using the premier software that, by the way, I now have. Yes, I'm taking classes for that, too, and she said I would be doing the same thing. Yeah, right.

Look closely at the t and h. See the stars that fill the letters? Awesome, huh?

I can't wait for a year or two from now when this all will seem so simple and I understand everything I'm doing. But for now, I sure am having fun learning how to use this new toy!

Welcome Signs

Here's my disclaimer for the day. These photos are bad. Really bad.

Remember, though, it rained here the entire month of May. Okay, there were actually 4 days that it didn't, but out of 31, those 4 don't count.

I made the signs and waited and waited for a day to get a good picture. Didn't happen. I gave up, so everything is soaked and messy around the signs. I'm kind of impatient like that.

I've never tried this technique before, but saw so much of it on Pinterest that I wanted to give it a try.

I printed the words out and then traced them with a pen onto the board. It leaves a little indentation when you pick up the paper.

I used a fine brush to outline the letters and then went back and filled them all in.

It's hard to tell, but I stained the whole board and then sanded away.

I stood this one up as you walk up onto the porch...

and I tied this one to an old trike that I found at a garage sale.

Hey look, the sun finally came out!!
(Let's hope it stays for awhile.)

Have an awesome Monday!
